does need to be cleaned but I will leave that to a pro so I dont mess anything up. the bottom of the sewing machines case opens up for storage. has an electric foot pedal and carrying case. this sewing machine still works properly. it was the first successful small motor that set off the electric sewing machine craze. motor was designed by Phillip DIEHL of the DIEHL MFG CO. more rare red eye paint job this was only used between 1910 and the late 1920's. The cabinet has two doors that open in the front revealing storage drawers and spindles for spools. The cabinet is a nice, warm dark brown wood, I believe it is walnut.
